Barn Owls - Year 2

This term our topic in Year 2 is Rainforest Explorers. We have been exploring the Amazon Rainforest in Science and Geography. We have located all the tropical rainforests around the world and thought about what animals live in this habitat.

In English we have read `The Great Kapok Tree`and used it as our inspiration for writing descriptively. This led to making a Rainforest book with the children`s art and writing. We are now learning a non-chronological report on jaguars using Talk for Writing actions.

Our art lessons have been influenced by the work of Georgia O`Keefe who painted close up images of flowers. The children used careful observation to draw close up pencil sketches of a jaguar eye.

Music and dance has also been inspired by Brazil with the children learning to play and dance to samba rhythms.

In Maths we have been consolidating all the work we have been doing all year. We continue to encourage the children to practise their mental maths skills using the Challenge Me cards.
