Building Futures, Inspiring Success

Handwriting

At Barnes Farm Infant School, our children begin their writing journey practising fine motor skills through threading, weaving, painting and manipulation of playdough in EYFS.  As soon as a child is able to correctly hold a pencil, they begin to learn how to write their name. We use a Continuous Cursive style (see below) which teaches children to form letters with a lead in (whoosh in) and lead out (whoosh out).  We have had amazing results since we implemented this new cursive style and seen huge improvements in presentation and accuracy of letter formation.
