Otter - Year 1
We have been enjoying learning and re-telling the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff in our English lessons. In Maths we have been working on fractions - finding, sharing and cutting shapes into halves and quarters. We have continued to chart the growth of our runner bean seeds in science. We have also been rescuing story book creatures in our dance lessons, and practising our throwing, catching and batting skills on the playground.
The children particularly enjoyed some Golden Time with art and craft materials this week for all of their fabulous behaviour and amazing enthusiasm for learning.
Thank you once again to all of the children who have brought in homework this week.
Every day we ask the children if they have read at home with an adult. Every child who has their reading record book written in by an adult five times in a week is entered into the 'win-a-fabulous-book' competition in our Friday celebration assembly.
Please read with your child as often as you can. We are so grateful for all of your support with this vital cornerstone of your child's learning. The class with the most daily readers also win books for their book corner and extra time on the climbing frame/trim trail.
We are really focusing on reading activities in year one, particularly the skills of sounding and blending. We are revising all the phonics covered in the year so far and enjoying reading lots and lots of real and alien words using our phonic knowledge.
