Dementia Action Week

This week, we had planned to take some of our children to a very special event called ‘Singing for the Brain Concert’ at Chelmsford Cathedral.

We have been working with Eason in Badger Classes mum, Ms Taylor, who works for the Alzheimer’s Society.  We had planned to sing a special song about memory to raise awareness about Dementia and were very much looking forward to what would have been a magical event at the Cathedral.

We were also working with the Alzheimer’s Society to plan some 'Dementia Friends' workshops for the children in school as part of our PSHE lessons.

Unfortunately due to the current situation, this event will not be able to go ahead. The good news is, Dementia Action Week has been postponed to a time when it will be safe to do this, so hopefully the event will go ahead in the future.

We look forward to our BFIS children being able to sing their hearts out at this special event soon.

18th-22nd - Mental Health Week

Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from 18-24 May 2020. The theme is kindness.

There is lots of advice and publications available at https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/publications that may be helpful, particulary during this uncertain time.

To support your children at this time, there are also some fantastic resources available at https://www.camhs-resources.co.uk/downloads, but please remeber to get in touch with us if we can be of any help.

There is a lovely resource from Sesame Street where Rosita teaches children how to relax with breathing techniques.  This would be fun for you to try together as a family. Please see link below.

There are also a number of Apps recommended by the NHS for managing anxiety.  Details for these can be found at https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/filter/?categories=Mental%20health

It would be great if we could fill the newsletter and even our windows with positive thoughts and messages of kindness, especially at this uncertain time.

Below are some suggestions of activities, but feel free to do your own thing. Please send photos and messages to admin@barnesfarm-inf.essex.sch.uk

  • Send kindness in the post Send a letter or a picture to someone who might need cheering up. It makes people happy to know you are thinking of them!

23rd-24th May - Eid Ul-Fitr

This week sees Ramadan draw to a close, and the beginning of Eid al-Fitr (also known as Eid ul-Fitr), with Muslims all over the world celebrating.

Eid marks the end of a month of fasting from dawn to sunset, as well as spiritual reflection and prayer.

The day will start with prayers and a big meal is usually the main event, but there’s lots of other ways people celebrate too.

Have a look at the weblinks below to find out more about how Eid Ul-Fitr is celebrated.
